Social ActionVolunteer at Cafe 5000
HELP FEED THOSE IN NEED Café 5000
On the fourth Sunday each month, the Social Action Committee joins our partners, the NAACP of the Oranges and Maplewood and Elmwood United Presbyterian Church, in Café 5000, an effort in which we gather at the church to serve a hot meal to the needy population in the area. Taking part is lovely and gratifying and a genuine mitzvah.
The on-site commitment is only from 12:15-2:30 PM on the 4th Sunday of each month and is located at the Elmwood Church in East Orange, about 15 minutes from our area. We’d love you to get involved. In advance of each of “our” days we distribute a signup sheet offering various ways to help, like preparing main courses, side dishes or desserts in advance, purchasing Shoprite gift cards, setting up for the midday meal, serving, and cleaning up after the meal. (Children at least 6 years old are welcome as long as a parent is with them.)
If you are able, please assist us in preparing for the next meal, Sunday, September 24, by signing up (on the Google Doc) to cook/purchase an item. Shoprite gift cards, cash and checks are also welcome to cover the cost of food. There are also a few spots available for volunteers who would like to participate in the actual meal service. Let us know if you are interested in joining us.
Want to help? It’s a great way to do a mitzvah! Let us know, and we’ll put you on the list to receive the signup sheet. We look forward to working together! To donate food or volunteer, please be in touch with Lori Kudish, email@example.com.
