marra gadSelichot: September 12, 7:30 PM, via Zoom

On September 12, at 7:30 PM, via Zoom, in observation of Selichot, with Rabbi Daniel M. Cohen, Cantor Rebecca Moses, Rabbi Allie Klein, Rabbi David Z. Vaisberg, Cantor Jessica Epstein and Rabbinical Assistant Max Edwards, please join us for an incredibly special and important conversation as we welcome award winning author, Marra B. Gad! This event is co-sponsored by Temple B’nai Abraham of Livingston and Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel of South Orange.   Havdalah will be conducted at this event.

Selichot, literally “forgiveness,” is the service held on the Saturday evening before Rosh Hashanah to help usher us into the themes of the Holy Days. Selichot is a time of reflection and preparation for the Holy Days. As we engage in personal acts of teshuva, tzedakah and tefila, repentance, charity and prayer, we explore the meaning of our lives.

Author Gad’s book, The Color of Love: A Story of a Mixed-Race Jewish Girl, has been described as “a story of our moment, ripe with themes of identity, racism, family politics, and more.” Her story is powerful, and hearing her speak about her experiences will surely renew our shared determination to make the new year more peaceful, compassionate, inclusive, and equitable.  The Color of Love (hardcopy and ebook), winner of the 2020 Midwest Book Award for Autobiography/Memoir, can be purchased directly though the publisher at this link: https://www.agatepublishing.com/titles/the-color-of-love. For more information email tbainfo@tbanj.org

For those attending the Marra Gad program, beginning Saturday evening at 7:30 pm, via Zoom.

The selichot service will begin around 8:45 pm, via Zoom.
