Disabilities Awareness Month Shabbat with Guest Speaker Jane Fischer, Temple Member. Topic: “The Power of the Human Spirit”
Jane Fischer is a wife, mother of three adult children and four precious grandchildren. She graduated Adelphi University where she earned a B.S in Education and there met her husband, Al, to whom she has been married over fifty years. Initially, Jane taught elementary school for several years before remaining at home to raise her children. After twenty years, she resumed her educational pursuit earning a Masters Degree in Special Education, certification as a Teacher of the Handicapped and additional certification as a Learning Consultant from Montclair University.
For twenty-five years, Jane worked as learning consultant in multiple schools before her retirement. She worked with countless administrators, parents, teachers and students striving to help them plan their educational program, and navigate the waters of special education. She has been an active member of the community, and served on many committees for special needs children, including the ECLC Board of Trustee, a school for children with disabilities. Jane was the founder and first President of a special education PTA, Parents and Professional for Exceptional Children (PPEC), and continues to advocate for special needs individuals and support their families. Jane’s favorite pastimes are spending time with her family, and, most of all, being a grandmother to her four cherished grandchildren
