I was honored to speak at the State House in Trenton on behalf of NJ Together, Metro IAF and the http://donotstandidlyby.org campaign on Thursday 11/5/15 at a Press Conference with NJ State Senator Loretta Weinberg as she announced new legislation to help the smart gun market emerge.
In 2002, Sen. Weinberg, who was then Assemblywoman, helped pass the Child-proof hand gun bill. This bill with good intentions, requiring all gun stores in NJ to only sell smart guns within three years of a smart gun being sold anywhere in the country, has unintentionally smothered the smart gun market. The new proposed legislation will instead require stores sell one smart gun along with other guns. This will enable a functioning market to emerge. See this article about smart guns. http://www.nj.com/opinion/index.ssf/2015/11/smart_guns_still_face_irrational_opposition_but_th.html
Gun violence continues to plague our country. Too many have lost family, friends, neighbors, congregants, parents and children. Smart guns won’t end all gun violence but they can save some lives.
